Post New addition to the family!
So I have had my new puppy since this past Saturday March 20th. We adopted her from Jeannie Duarte Czar's Pride BRT Kennel. She is the most adorable puppy, but of course I am bias. She really likes our fat cat Tigger. We have to keep her from thinking he is a toy:) For only being 8 weeks old she is pretty well potty trained, the problem isn't going outside it's being able to hold it. She is a moody one let me tell you. Don't try to pick her up if she wants to go somewhere! She will growl and snip at your face. I am attributing that to her puppy behavior but not letting her get away with snipping. I have to keep reminding my myself that she is only 8.5 weeks old. She is so big so big and I forget. Plus I won't be able to pick her up for very much longer

Osa has gained 2 lbs in less than a week! She is still in the right weight range so no worries.

Any tips on what to give them for chew toys? I bought some chicken strips dried, rope toys rubber toys pretty much anything I could think of. She obviously likes the chicken strips but those don't last long.

She is very attached to us already which I think is great. I feel so bad when we have to leave her for work. When we come back that is about the only time she lets me pick her up:) She wants to be cuddled and loved. So cute!

Well I guess that is enough writing. I will be posting pictures soon for all to see.

By the way if you don't know what Osa means it's Spanish for bear. She looks just like a baby bear and has the paws to prove it:P

tried and true great chewing snacks are cut up raw potatoes, carrots, apples and broccoli. Also ice cubes made with beef or chicken stock.

Moody is probably not the correct description of her attitude - more like adventurous - at that age they like to explore similar to a 2 yr old wanting down down to be able to walk - there is so much more to get into on the ground than in your arms!! And you really need to remember now is the time to reinforce what you expect from her - since you WONT be able to pick her up soon now is the time to pet her when she is sitting at your feet. I KNOW how cute they are at this age - I have one myself that is spoiled ROTTEN!! by grandma and chewing on my shoes as we speak (I am having a case of do as I say not as I do right now   ) but it really is best to not let them on the furniture now if they wont be allowed as adults, not allowed in your lap ditto etc. etc, THEY dont know they have gotten bigger.

Welcome to the RBK family!!

Hey, Jackie! No disrespect to your cocker spaniel, but I do expect a picture of Osa as your avatar. :)

I'll be getting pictures posted ASAP. My camera is charging:P Took me a while to find the dang charger! I should be able to post some pictures tonight. I will definitely keep you all posted on our progress.

I agree Helene about treating her like she is already big. I do for the most part but as you say they are sooooo cute! My husband told me the same thing:) She is not allowed on the couch either. She tries but she is still to small and uncoordinated to jump up.

I have noticed one thing she does which is nice, Osa likes to accumulate all her toys in one area, it makes it easier for cleaning up :D

Hi. My name is Sue and we just got our new puppy BRT yesterday. He is 14 weks old and his name is ZZ Top. He is a fuzzy sweetheart and such a good boy. He is great with our kids, ages 5 and 7, and he is so quiet and well behaved-I can't believe how quiet our home is with a new puppy in it. The gentleman at the airport was suprised that there was a puppy on board-he thought the crate was empty until he went to pick it up-he said he didn't bark or make noise the entire flight. He slept through the night last night and is getting used to being on a leash, although a bit reluctant at first!
You can attach a picture to the forum by paging down under the 1st submit button where it says filename-just click on the browse button and upload a picture from your computer. I did find that my files where too big and I had to crop them to make them smaler before it would attach it to the post. Congrats and good luck with your new puppy. Sue

Hi, Vijay. Yes! You are getting an Osa littermate. And also to Mr. Nikolai. Kat's new baby. By the way, he is now with Helene at RBK, so she'll be able to give you updates. He's been playing with his maternal grandmother...and also Basya, Laika's dam. (Haha, Helene, that grandmother reference was for you.) Anyway, I'm sure you'll be glad to watch the littermate progress as you are waiting for Vittaly to come home. (I think I spelled it right.)

Oh by the way my post about her growling, she is getting better the more we get used to each other. She doesn't growl that much any more and she definitely doesn't snap. It was just adventurous side like Helene said! She has even started to sit on command I am really impressed about the breed's intelligence. They are very intuitive! She rides in the car just fine. She watches T.V.! Hilarious. Loves the treats! Most of all she wants to be with us all the time! But she does really well in the kennel at night and sleeps for most of the night.

Vijay by the time you get your puppy hopefully he will be mostly potty trained so you won't have to go through the mess. I would definitely recommend getting a doggy door. Jeannie has one and the puppies are already used to using it. Right now we are in a rental so I don't have one but the house we are buying we are putting one in. It's worth it.

Jackie- How cute is your little "big" girl! It is so nice to be able to stay in touch with Mr. Nikolai's littermate and after reading your post we have another with Vijay. Funny about the growling, Nikolai was doing that to me when he goes into the crate, not agressive just testing me. I think. He is very mellow and is doing very well with potty training as well. He has had 3 loose stools today. Poor baby!

love the pictures! i'm glad someone's brt is the best for the groomer - cuz bear is NOT!!! first of all he's the biggest dog she grooms (98 lbs right now) and he's the "most active" as she put it! :? the last time he went i even walked him right before thinking that would tire him out and he'd behave better - but noooooooo. i called later that day to see how he did, before i picked him up, and they told me that bear made tina break out in a sweat that day. evidently that doesnt' normally happen to tina! :o

lucky for me bear is so lovable and tina loves me (and i tip really well  ).

Kat, the loose stools seem to be a product of the stress of travel, change of food and environment. He should clear up as he gets adjusted and gets his diet stabilized. It certainly does make one want to pay attention whenever he even THINKS he may have to go. :) I have also found that this litter seems to seriously prefer the wire crates to the solid ones. The remaining puppies are taking to their new wire crates very well and seem less inclined to complain about going into them. Just a thought. Mr. Nikolai was a big complainer about crate time.
