Hey everyone, storytime again from me :-) Everyday, when I get home from work, Vassily greets me by throwing himself on me, and when he jumps up on me like that, his fore legs almost reach my shoulders, and his face is almost level with mine (with me standing up, of course). And he jumps up on me lu...

Hey Kat, Good to hear from you! Did you measure how tall Nikolai is? Just curious as I have no benchmark for whether Vassily is the right height or not. I measured his height when he turned 7 months old and he was 26 inches tall then. Seemed about ok to me, but I have no way of knowing if am right. ...

Thanks for your views, Michelle. Am glad you liked the article - I expected most of you people on here would find it very basic, but it is a good overview on the subject of "guard dogs", I agree. So, basically, you agree with the author that a protection work trained dog that is not given ...

I got home a little early from work (for a change!) today, and poured myself a glass of wine. A couple of glasses later, I turned around and looked at Vassily lying on the floor close by, looking peaceful, peacable and calm. I called out to him and he got up and walked over to me and stood next to t...

Ok, so I stumbled upon this article on guard dog training. It's not very intense or specialized, and is a basic, "guard dog training for dummies" kinda article which many of you veterans are likely to find too basic. But I'd still like your views, especially this bit which caught my attent...

Pei, Your story's hilarious! I was out at the balcony havin a coffee and smoke and when I read your message, I burst out laughing loud....and people walking in the street got startled at my suddent burst of laughter and stared up at me :-) No, Vassily doesn't walk up to and sit on the scales. The sc...

My weighing scales problem has now been accelerated. I just realized that my weighing scales have a weight limit of 265 pounds. And we (Vassily and I combined) had already reached that limit last time we weighed in about ten days ago (self-186 and Vassily-78)!!! So, unless I figure out another way t...

Tara, As a BRT owner who, late last year and earlier this year was going thru a similar dilemma, I'll tell you this - don't either be swayed by the gushing remarks of relatively new BRT owners like Vancouver, Vince or me (yes, read my posts about Vassily to see what I mean by gushing!) or get totall...

Selina, Sasha snores too, huh? Isn't it hilarious :-) He didn't "follow me downstairs" cos he was charging up the stairs to where he heard the noise......and wanted to complete his "investigation" before charging back to me :-) Your husband is lucky Sasha's suspicions were not fo...

Hahaha, that's funny, Michelle :-) I don't think anyone's gonna mess with you in a hurry - after all, you have a whole arsenal of big dogs :-) Anyone who's even THINKING of trying something funny would surely quickly discard such thoughts once they see the arsenal on display :-)

Okay, I HAD to post this right away! Today, I've been fortunate to witness two superlatively fearless, swift, focused and territorial protective behaviour from my dogs (even if I say so myself). I spent a LOT of quality time with the dogs today (something I haven't had the time to do for the past co...

Sheri, How you doing? If I accept one part of your theory, then I necessarily can't accept another part of it. In other words, if you can't get dogs to do what you want all the time thru carrots alone and need to use the stick every now and then, then that essentially means dogs too are like people ...

Congratulations! That must be an awesome feeling. Check out a thread I wrote when I was a few days away from picking up Vassily (think it's called "The wait is eatin me up"). I KNOW and empathise with the restlessness, excitement, anxiety and impatience you must be feeling right now :-) As...
